A Charming Rural Community
Windsor, in Henry County, is a charming rural community at the crossroads of State Highways 2 and 52. It is located 11 miles north of Truman Reservoir, 15 miles to Whiteman Air Force Base and 35 miles to the Lake of the Ozarks.
At one time the area was called Rives County and finally Henry County, in honor of Patrick Henry. After first being named Belmont and then Spring Grove (both names were found to be existing towns) it was renamed Windsor after "Windsor Castle" in England.

During the Civil War soldiers from both Union and Confederate armies battled across the state. The first Confederate flag to be raised in Missouri was in Windsor. By 1870 the first railroad was built through town. Farming was the mainstay of the community until coal mining bloomed in 1901. The Rock Island Railroad built a line through town in 1904. Other industries in the early 1900s included broom and button factories as well as a chicken hatchery. The popularity of hatcheries expanded here, and at one time Windsor was known as the second largest producer of baby chicks in the world.
